Martha Babirye’s 83 gross has marked Uganda’s decent start in Ghana, according to numerous reports from the media.
The Ladies’ national golf team rookie, Babirye has now gone on to churn out the best result for the team.
That is the situation as the 14th edition of the All Africa Challenge Trophy began at the Achimota Golf Club.
It actually kicked into play in the West African nation of Ghana on Wednesday of this very week.
Despite her 83 gross not particularly one to be proud of at such a continental tournament, the Ugandans appreciated it.
And that is in their chase of at least a third place finish at the biennial championship holding in Ghana.
Magala, Nakalembe produce identical 86 gross each
A duo out of the other Ugandan team members, Eva Magala and Irene Nakalembe produced an identical 86 gross each.
That was with one of them counting to Uganda’s fifth place start in the event attracting golfers from 18 nations.
Every country has three golfers with the best two scorers on each team contributing to the team total score.
And that is in each of the three rounds.
The AACT started a biennial event in Harare at Chapman Golf Club in May, 1992 with twelve countries taking part.
South Africa with twelve triumphs and who are set to win this year’s event has dominated the championship since 1992.
