Billy Monger crash: Formula 4 driver’s leg loss ‘heart-wrenching’.
Formula 1 drivers including Lewis Hamilton shows support for a British Formula 4 driver who had both legs amputated following a crash. The fund-raising page for Monger reached over £350,000 by 08:00 BST on Thursday.
The three times formula one champion tweeted “Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family,” tweeted Britain’s three-time world.
Jenson Button who is also a former world champion posted on Instagram: “This guy needs our help. I will be doing as much as I can to help this dude out.”
Williams’ Felipe Massa also showed his support, tweeting: “Let’s help him. I’ll do my best.”
Billy Monger, 17, have had his leg amputated following a crash after he drove at high speed into the back of a car which seemed to have stopped on the track during Sunday’s race at Donington Park.
Formula 4 driver, who has been described as “an extremely talented young driver” had to be extracted from his vehicle at the Leicestershire track and airlifted to hospital.
Australian World Endurance Champion Mark Webber wrote: “keep boxing mate”.
Formula one teams including Mercedes, Force India and McLaren have also shown their support on social media.
