 The Massachusetts Department of Correction has confirmed Aaron Hernandez killed himself in prison.

The jury found Hernandez not guilty of first-degree murder in the 2012 killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado last week. But, the Ex-NFL star was already serving a life sentence for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd.

Department of Correction statement said, “Mr. Aaron Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window and Aaron and attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items .”

The former New England Patriots star was discovered in his cell at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts at approximately 3:05 a.m., according to the Globe. He was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. after being transported to UMass Leominster.

Hernandez, a tight end, played for the Patriots from 2010 to 2012 and he was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round (113th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

It was reported from multiple sources that he had admitted to marijuana use and had failed multiple drug tests while in college, causing his draft stock to drop.

Aaron Hernandez began seeing Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez in 2007 and a daughter, Avielle Janelle Jenkins-Hernandez, who was born in November 2012.
