Monchi unhappy with Emery reunion?

Unai Emery

Incoming Roma sporting director Monchi says he hopes to see Unai Emery stay with French giants Paris Saint Germain and help them grow rather than taking up a job in Roma.

There are reports the duo could come again under the same board at Roma after excellent seasons with Sevilla during which they won the Europa League three times in a row before Emery departed for PSG in the summer of 2016.

Emery is said to have reached a preliminary agreement with Roma and could be replacing Luciano Spalletti at the capital club come summer.

However, Monchi feels he would have hoped to see the 51-year-old, who took over less than a year ago in France to stay a longer time with PSG and help the team grow.

Emery perfect for PSG, Sevilla not Roma – Monchi

Monchi worked with Emery in Sevilla

“Emery? I talked to him lately but there is nothing in our future in the medium to long term,” Monchi told AS. “What I want is that he continues to stay for many years at PSG , because it would mean he’s doing well.

“He was the perfect coach for Sevilla.

“Possible objectives in common between Roma and Sevilla in the transfer market? I do not think so, we will move in different circles. We see the same players, yes, but in the end there’s no mention of conflict of interest, and if there were to be an opportunity, I would avoid it.

“I coordinated the monitoring of players at Sevilla, as of now I must make decisions but there’s nothing more to do in that sense. ”

“The best of my time at Sevilla? Being able to live what even I dreamed. Sharing many moments of happiness winning titles with the Sevillista people was something that seemed impossible.

“It’s nice that players who have made at Sevilla have continued to grow and win. In the Milan derby last week there were five ex-Sevilla players. [Gerard] Deulofeu, [Carlos] Bacca, [Ever] Banega, [Gary] Medel and [Geoffrey] Kondogbia . These are things that give me pride for my club and for my people.

“Dani Alves, for example, arrived, grew up, went away with a large profit for us and, whenever they ask him about Sevilla, he only has nice things to say about the club.

“It was the perfect deal. In the role of sporting director money you agility, but not certainty: the task at hand is to focus on someone, thinking about how he can make it in your own context.
