That is for companies to assist the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) in achieving its podium finish ambition in Tokyo.

Edirin actually had an interview session with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) via telephone in Lagos State.

He said that for the West African nation to triumph at the Olympics, investors had to come to its aid.

“If we want to make the podium in Tokyo 2020, then investors should come in and partner with the AFN.

“And that is for us to go ahead and meet the target that we have set for the global tournament.

“These athletes need a lot more than people in Nigeria think, the athletes need conducive training environment, modern training facilities.

“They also need the latest training and competition kits, proper nutrition and adequate feeding, incentives plus medical team of doctors.

“I also have the very strong belief that the athletes will be in need of physiotherapists, masure and psychologist etc.

“For us to win medals, such things need to be in its proper place,” he said.

“We have always had talents” – Edirin

Edirin who coaches Oritsemeyiwa Ineh who is a Youth Olympics triple jump silver medallist also spoke very well about Nigeria.

He said the nation had abundance of talents but finance was a major hindrance after discovering many of the athletes.

“We have always had talents who we can work on by doing the necessary things.

“And these important things are like providing a conducive environment for training and training kits.

“Also proper nutrition as in relation to athletics and assistance in academics too,” he went on.

While giving a response to the importance people accord to sprints, he admonished field athletes to stay steadfast and committed.

“For rookie athletes, they should always put God first, like wise all of us.

“They should love what they are doing even when the gains have not started coming.

“Also, they should have focus and be faithful to themselves, believing they will receive favour if they do not quit.” He advised.
