The Oakland Raiders are making plans to terminate the running contract of defensive end, Bruce Irvin, according to valid reports.
And that is with the franchise having already informed the player that they will release him.
That will as a result put an end to a star-crossed 2½-year spell which he has had with the team.
Irvin was not on Saturday’s NFL transaction wire which implies that they cannot release him until 4 p.m ET on Monday.
When he eventually comes out as a free agent, he will then be very much available to go on waivers.
Irvin has, however, thanked the Raiders organization in a post he made on his Twitter handle on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier on, though, the club said: “We would like to thank Bruce Irvin for his years of service to the Oakland Raiders.
“And we wish him nothing but the very best in future in his career,” Raiders’ general manager, Reggie McKenzie said.
Irvin had actually emerged as the defensive captain before the beginning of the 2018/19 season.
In-spite of that, though, he saw his playing time at the club reduce greatly.
And he managed to register just nine defensive snaps in Thursday night’s 34-3 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers.
He made a change from outside linebacker this off-season and was a bookend pass-rusher to Khalil Mack.
And that was prior to Mack going on trade to the Chicago Bears on September 1 of this very year.
Irvin who had career-high-tying eight sacks opposite Mack last term, however, struggled as the primary pass-rusher.
“I am going to try to make some babies” – Irvin
Irvin rankled some in the organization when he spoke to reporters after the Raiders’ 27-3 defeat against the Seattle Seahawks in London.
He said: “We lost but I have got a beautiful wife I get to go home to, boy.
“I am going to try to make some babies, man,” he suggested.
Irvin who turned 31 on Thursday had six tackles on the season with one for defeat and one forced fumble.
He had a base salary of $8 million this season with a salary-cap number of $8.25 million.
And he was also in line to earn $9million in the year 2019 alone with a cap number of $9.25million.
