Nikita Liamin and Viacheslav win Gold at Kish Island

Nikita Liamin and Viacheslav made history at the FIVB World Tour Kish Island 3-star after grabbing gold medal for the first time as partners.

The pair settled a tie that was on the balance from the first minute until the last with a startling composure given the circumstances, pressure and surroundings. The Russian came from a set down a made the symbolic passage to a 2-1 victory (18-21, 21-19, 15-8) in the final against Poland’s Bartosz Losiak/ Piotr Kantor.

When the two sides return for the deciding set, they all presented their best for this once a life time opportunity, and the game was decided on a change. And the Russians made the historic triumph in style after winning the deciding set 15-8 to climb the podium at the symbolic Kish Island.

In the third place playoff fellows Russians Oleg Stoyanovskiy/Artem Yarzutkin grabbed the bronze medal in a 2-1 (13-21, 27-17, 15-7) victory against the German pairs of Lorenz Schumann/ Julius Thole.
